How many horror stories about SatNavs are true?
I think many of the “horror” stories are heavily embellished, put it that way. A person daft enough to come a cropper using a Sat Nav would probably get into even more trouble trying to navigate with a traditional map. Most of them seem to be HGV drivers who try to turn into roads that are only suitable for cars – the sat nav doesn’t “know” what type of vehicle they’re driving, the daft twits! I personally think the sat nav (or the good ones anyway, i.e. Tom Tom!) is one of the greatest gifts modern technology has given to the motorist in the last 20 years. Who finds them useful? Anyone who ever drives to unfamiliar places, and likes to navigate using present-day technology instead of cumbersome old-fashioned methods. I don’t know how delivery drivers and taxi drivers ever managed without one – even if you have the best road map in the world and a person in the passenger seat to read out directions for you, it doesn’t give you the ability to find individual street addresses by postcode
