How many horns are used in an orchestra?
It depends on what you mean by horn and by orchestra. In a symphony, sometimes there are as many as 5 or 6 french horns, however, even though “horn” normally refers to a french horn, the term is sometimes used to refer to other instruments besides just the french horn. The also depends on the what is being played. I used to play the trumpet, also sometimes referred to as a horn, in a symphony in a small city, and some pieces used 2 trumpets, some 3, a few used 5 or 6, and a few used none, and the same goes for other instruments. The basic is, they use however many are needed for each specific piece.
