How Many Hominid Fossils Are There?
There is a common belief today that there are only a handful of hominid (humans and there theoretical evolutionary ancestors) fossils to study. However by 1969-1976 approximately four thousand specimens had been unearthed. Since the mid 1970s a massive search for fossil ancestors has by some estimates revealed another three to four thousand specimens, for a grand total of between seven and eight thousand individuals. For some the amount of human fossils is a proof for the evolution of man however, it is the interpretation of the fossils not the sheer number that is important. Creationists think that they have adequate explanations for the various fossil hominid finds.
