BAREFOOT BAY — NOT THE FIRST TIME Another tropical storm, Gordon, hit Barefoot Bay in 1994. However, 498 homes were damaged then and racking up almost $10 million in costs. One Barefoot Bay man was killed, several others were injured. At least nine homes became uninhabitable Tuesday afternoon after a tornado touched down just north of the Indian River County line in Barefoot Bay, according to a news release. “It sounded like a freight train came through,” said Nathan White, 28, whose Laurel Circle home was spared by the twister that struck several homes on his block. “There was a lot of noise. We weren’t sure what was happening.” The tornado from Tropical Storm Fay reportedly touched down about 1:40 p.m. in Barefoot Bay, a manufactured home community in southern Brevard County.
