The number of homeless veterans seen and treated by the Fayetteville-based Healthcare for Homeless Veterans program was 144 in fiscal year 2009, 171 in fiscal year 2008 and 49 in fiscal year 2007. Statewide, the total of homeless veterans treated through the program in fiscal year 2009 was 2,034. The N.C. Coalition to End Homelessness estimates there are 61 homeless veterans in New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties. The total statewide is 940.
