How many hermit crabs should i buy and what items do i need for them?
I am so happy you are getting hermit crabs!! I have had 2 for over a year, they are such a joy! I would get to hermit crabs that are about the same size to prevent “bullying”. Get a 10 gallon cage. You can get many many hermit crabs as long as you have the proper size cage. Petsmart said 2 for every 5 gallons, but I personally think that that is too many hermit crabs for 5 gallons! You need a shelter, water dish, distilled water, brackish water (this is not NEEDED i dont use it, but others do), 1-3 inches of sand depending on size of crab, something to climb on (i have a edible stick), food dish, hermit crab food, special coconut strips bought at petstores, another shelter for molting if you have extra money, extra shells of all sizes, pooper scooper, hygrometer(measures humidity) and thermometer, a sponge (you place this in the water for humidity), make sure you have a lid. Use a SCREEN lid for ventilation. Make sure you get a spray bottle and mist they cage every night or 3-5 nights
