You shouldn’t have more than 50 grams of added sugar throughout the day. This includes the sugar in cereal since cereal is not a natural food and therefore the sugar has been added. I’m willing to bet when you have cereal you do not have a serving size (typically half a cup to a cup of cereal). Measure what you’re eating and then look at the sugar count per serving, and multiply it by what you’re actually eating. Was quite the wakeup call for me. Also, look at the ingredients of cereal. There is nothing healthy in 90% of the cereal in the cereal aisle. It is fortified junk food disguised as healthy. If you want a healthy cereal, go look in the “natural/organic” section of the store–There you will find cereals that look and taste similar to things like Cheerios and Special K, but they are actually real food. Better yet, if you want a real cereal, get old fashioned (NOT instant) oatmeal. Add some fruit, and you’re good to go.
