How should I prepare for my Geriatric Medicine PYA The purpose of the PYA is to establish what additional training is needed during the last 12-18 months of training in order to complete curriculum requirements. An external assessor (experienced programme director/SAC or ETC member/educational supervisor from another deanery) is present as well as your own programme director and other consultants and possibly an academic representative from your own deanery. Your training record/portfolio needs to be up to date with all competencies etc signed off. You need an up to date Curriculum Vitae which should look like one you might use to apply for a consultant post – include your training, qualifications, experience, courses attended (teaching, research methodology and management and ALS especially) publications, presentations, teaching experience, audits (especially audit cycle), special interests and career intentions.
