The Government of India has given NMCE status to four Exchanges including the Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd. (MCX) This recognition was given after in-depth scrutiny and evaluation of 24 proposals, from which four proposals were cleared by the FMC on getting formal approval of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India. This is one of the initiatives announced by Honorable Prime Minister on August 15, 2002.
