How many exams are there?
Phase I – Two written assessments are taken at the end of each semester. There is an additional Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) at the end of the first year and at the end of Phase I (i,e, during January of the final Phase I semester). Phase II – Intermediate Clinical Examination and written paper in March of the 4th year. Final Examination in March of the Final Year.
In each year there are 3 exams (1 for each unit), taken in June, and 1 piece of assessed coursework. In year 12 the three exams are one hour long and are taken in one three-hour sitting. In year 13 the exams are longer and are taken in two sittings. The exams mostly consist of short answer questions, but there are longer essay and data interpretation questions in year 13. Your AS grade is based on the average mark for the three exams in year 12, and your A-level grade is based on the average mark for all six exams. You may re-sit any module exam in January or June, though a re-sit doesn’t necessarily mean an improvement!
