How many earthquakes has SCSN recorded since 1932?
As of Nov. 29, 2004, we have 416,165 local earthquakes in the SCSN catalog. Of these, 18,399 had a magnitude of 3.0 or greater (in other words, might easily have been felt). 231 of them had a magnitude of 5.0 or greater, a size that might cause minor damage if located near poorly built structures. In addition to the earthquakes, there are also over 29,000 explosions in the SCSN catalog. These are mostly blasting at local mines & rock quarries, but the total also includes underground nuclear shots at the Nevada Test Site between the late 1950’s & 1992.
