The Indy Racing League (IRL) is an American-based open-wheel auto racing sanctioning body. The League sanctions two racing series, the premier IZOD IndyCar Series[1] (abbreviated ICS; sometimes considered synonymous with the Indy Racing League), whose centerpiece is the Indianapolis 500, and Firestone Indy Lights, the official developmental series of the Indy Racing League. The IRL intends to sanction a third series, a revival of the entry-level U.S. F2000 National Championship, beginning in 2010.[2] The IRL is owned by Hulman and Co., which also owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway complex and the Clabber Girl brand.
