The species included are those that have been accepted by the American Birding Association (ABA) as North American birds. The common and scientific names used are the ones used in the 7th Edition of the American Ornithologists’ Union (A.O.U.) Check-list, July, 1998.The sequence is also consistent with the A.O.U. Check-list, although birds of Central America and Hawaii are omitted. The area covered includes Canada, Alaska, and the 48 contiguous states.
