How many degree-granting schools does Purdue have?
We offer degree programs in twelve academic colleges and schools, which offer approximately 200 majors. Do you have an honors college? Each college or school offers its own academic honors program. How large are first-year classes at Purdue? Class sizes vary. English composition classes usually are limited to about 25 students. Foreign language classes average about 30 students. Chemistry classes might consist of a lecture section of 250-300 and a laboratory of 25 students; math classes usually combine a lecture of 200-250 with a recitation section of 30 students. Class sizes become smaller as students move farther along in their majors. What is the retention rate for first-year students? Approximately 95-97 percent of our first-year class is academically eligible to return for their sophomore year. Around 87 percent of those students actually return after their first year.
