How many DCCCD students need remedial work?
Approximately 70 percent of first-time, entering students require at least one remedial course. What else do you do to close the gap? We have retention efforts to influence students who are underrepresented in college to pursue college. We have three Hispanic-serving institutions. More than 25 percent of the students at El Centro, Mountain View and North Lake are Hispanic. All three have programs to attract students and retain them. We do male mentoring programs. We also establish career pathways to interest students in fields where there is tremendous demand for graduates. Gov.
