How many days are there in a Chinese New Year?
Chinese New Year (CNY) (or Spring Festival as it is known in China) is the first day of the lunar calendar. The government holiday is three days long. The celebration of the start of the year lasts for two weeks with the “end” being celebrated on the Lantern Festival. It’s sort of like saying Christmas celebrations begin on December 24 and that the holiday is “officially” over on January 2. University and school schedules usually have six to eight weeks off with the spring semester beginning around March 1. Sometimes a week or so earlier, depending upon when the CNY actually begins.
