How many days after ovulation does the egg get fertilised?
The egg is released on day 14 of the cycle and lasts up to 48 hours before it degenerates if not fertilized. After unprotected sex the sperm can last about 4-5 days in the body. So, its sort of a matching game really – your are most fertile for about 2 days before ovulation and for the two days afterwards, day 12-16. So if you’re trying to conceive then this is the period you should put the most effort into shall we say! Don’t use this rhythm method as contraception however expecting it to be reliable, as up to 35% of women who use this method exclusively are pregnant by the end of the year!
