How many countries import Japanese cartoons and comics?
It is a worldwide phenomenon. Over the last few years, there has been an extraordinary increase in the popularity of Japanese pop culture across the globe. With regards to America specifically, according to 2005 statistics from the Japan Foundation, there has been a 25 percent jump in the number of young Americans studying Japanese compared to just five years ago. Now more than 140,000 American youth actively study Japanese every year, and comic books and cartoons are one of the main reasons why.
