How many childcare professionals in England are not at Level 3 at present?
Local authorities may hold this information but accurate and up to date information at a national level is not readily available. The DCSF carries out an Early Years and Childcare Providers Survey which asks questions about qualification levels of staff and according to this source the current percentage of staff in early settings with an appropriate level 3 qualification is 70%. However, it is vital that we have more accurate and ‘real time’ information not only about qualifications levels but also about the types of qualifications held by staff. This will help us to ensure that everyone has been accredited with the appropriate skills and knowledge for their role and to measure progress toward the Government’s ambition to create a graduate-led workforce in which all those working with our youngest children have level three qualifications as a minimum.
