How many certified counselors must an agency have and what does that mean for an agency hiring registered counselors?
By April 1, 2010, at least thirty percent (30%) of staff conducting counseling services in all AOD (alcohol and other drug) programs should be licensed or certified pursuant to the requirements of the Counselor Certification Regulations, Section 13010. All other counseling staff shall be registered pursuant to Section 13035 (f). An agency can still hire registered counselors but must ensure that at least 30% of staff providing counseling services are licensed or certified.
