How many Canadians with a physical disability regularly participate in sport?
Research shows that less than 3 per cent of Canadians with a physical disability regularly participate in organized sport. By comparison, about 31 per cent of Canadians (age 16+) regularly participate in organized sport. This small participation base contributes to high incidence of obesity, increased healthcare costs and directly impacts Canada’s performance at Paralympic Games while highlighting the need for increased awareness of the opportunities and possibilities in sport for Canadians with physical disabilities.
