How many calories would you burn swimming 20 lenghts of a 22 metre pool contineuos?
It depends on how hard you swim. For most people, you burn more calories walking from the parking lot to the dressing room, changing into your swim suit, and walking to the pool than they do swimming four times that distance. When you can do it in 5 minutes or less, then you’re burning calories. But if you’re 5’10” and 285#, while the exercise will be better than none at all — which I’ll presume you’re more used to, you won’t lose much weight in the pool. Unless you have a good mentor, stick to weight training, walking and running. All that being said, I went from 230 down to 165 in three months swimming. I’d get to the pool at 5:00 AM and do an hour of kicking — hard. Then I’d come in at noon for an hour and do kind of a long, slow, workout concentrating on strokes. Then at 4:00 I’d work out for an hour and a half with a Masters swim team (I was in my 50s).
