How many bricks would i need?

Hi Your wall is about 9 square metres in area and you need 60 standard bricks per metre so that’s 540 bricks for the face. You will need a reinforcing pillar at the ends and every 5 metres along the length at least so that’s probably another 100 bricks or so. Unless you’re building straight onto a concrete yard or something you will need a couple of courses below ground – that’s another 130. So, all up for a 100mm thick wall you are looking at about 800 bricks plus a few for wastage. However, if you are using this as a retaining wall i.e. to split a level in a garden, a 100mm wall won’t be thick enough – you will need it at least 200mm thick and probably 300mm thick for the bottom 4 courses. This will mean in the order of 1400 bricks but bear in mind that bricks at the ‘back’ of the wall are hidden so you don’t need to use expensive face bricks here – use concrete ‘commons’ instead. If this is a retaining wall then I would strongly suggest you get a builder in to look at it, especially
