How many boroughs is New York City?
There are five boroughs. They are: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhatten, Queens, and Staten Island, each of which is contained within one of the 5 counties making up New York City (with each county bearing the same name as the boroughs). In 1934, New York City alderman Elias Jacobs submitted a bill that would have made Yonkers the 6th borough, though the bill failed and his vision was never realized.
