Hitler was genuinely popular with MOST of the German public for MOST of the time he held power. It was not until 1944, when Germany’s probable defeat in WW2 became obvious, that Hitler’s public popularity began to decline. But Hitler was never popular with every German. Right from the start of his career as a politician, there were those who saw him as a menace, and who were prepared to try to eliminate him by assassination. Therefore, security around Hitler was always very tight indeed. You don’t see this in the videos, because the security arrangements did not amount to a cluster of bodyguards shielding Hitler from a bullet. Instead, his public appearances – in street parades, sports arenas, meeting halls and rally sites – were always arranged well in advance.
