How many boating accidents occur each year in the United States?
Nearly 5,000 boating accidents occur in the United States each year. Based on data from the US Coast Guard, of all the accidents reported, nearly 708 or at least 8 percent result in death while more than 4, 789 people or nearly 80 percent were injured in recreational boating incidents. Many of the boating accidents were attributed to alcohol use while some injuries were attributed to negligence such as non-wearing of flotation devices or failure to observe safety rules.
