During the summer of 2008 a total of 3,574 bicycles were counted in downtown Boulder over four one-hour periods, approximately 73 percent were on racks (65.9%) or parking meters (7.2%), 22.2 percent were locked on things other than racks or meters, such as trees, railings, or fences, and 4.8 percent were left freestanding outside of businesses or residences. Between 2007 and 2008, there was a 28 percent increase in the number of bicycles counted over the same four days and times.
