How many attributes are there in the Music Genome?
For pop songs we analyze approximately 200 distinct attributes. For Jazz, Hip Hop, Latin, and Electronica the number is closer to 400 attributes. When you ask the player “why is this song playing,” you’re seeing just a summary from the Music Genome. The idea is to try to take the fine-grained attributes “up a level” and to provide some interesting insight into what makes the song tick — without getting into all the gory details. Don’t worry, there’s a lot more to what makes the song distinct in the Music Genome than what we show on the page.
