How many assessment items will be administered in the CAA?
The number of assessment items that are administered to any given student will vary based on the course, grade of the assessment, and response pattern of the student. For example, students in lower grades will not be required to answer as many items as students in higher grades. To address this issue, “stopping rules” will be established for each course at each grade so that no student will receive more than a maximum number of items (e.g., students taking a Mathematics 7 CAA may take a maximum of 55 items, at which time the assessment process would stop and they would receive a score). These stopping rules will be based on a number of considerations including total test-taking time, grade level, and Program of Studies, and will be established in consultation with Alberta teachers and Alberta Education.
