How many animals did OHS adopt in 2008?
OHS found homes for 9,229 animals in 2008, setting new records for the percentage of animals saved and the number of cats adopted. OHS’s adoption rate is consistently 3-4 times above the national average. The rate is even more impressive because it includes 2,104 animals transferred to OHS from 48 animal welfare agencies (such as humane societies and animal control agencies) in Oregon, Washington and California. These animals were given a “second chance” at finding a loving home through OHS when time and resources had run out at other shelters. When it comes to cats, OHS set new record for the overall cat adoption rate. Last year, 4,811 felines found homes through OHS, which was 93 percent of the cats available for adoption. OHS also set new records for rabbits, rodents and other small animals.
