How many alternatives are expected within the design sections D1, D2 & D3, to gain more than 1 mark in each area?
It is accepted that there is a slight difference in the wording between D1 and D2/3, which originally led to some confusion about what was required. At training for the last two years we have made every effort to get the message over to delegates that despite the different wording, it is acceptable to have one “original” design and ONE other design to meet the requirements in each of these three sections. However, it should be noted that, where the candidate indicates that their solution requires more than one item of a particular part (i.e. a number of tables in the relational database or several different outputs formats), then each item identified requires more than one design to provide the evidence needed to award more than 1 mark. It should also be noted that the rider “appropriate” is added to the wording of the criterion.
