How many Afghans are crossing into Pakistan through non-official border points?

0

The Pakistan/Afghanistan border is extremely porous and it is difficult to put a figure on the numbers who may be crossing at unofficial points. With normal transit trade having plummeted, many of those normally engaged in commercial activities are engaged in smuggling people. Unconfirmed reports suggest that as many as 1-2,000 people in total are crossing per day into NWFP. New arrivals are mainly staying in private homes, old refugee camps and in some cases in mosques. It is not unknown for some local families to be hosting 6 families.
