How many actual phrases are there used in English which are foreign such as deja vu?
Every single word in English came from one or more “foreign” words, except the relatively few utter coinings by the like of Shakespeare and Lewis Carrol. Even then, they were influenced by existing foreign loan-words. Phrases like “deja vu” (already seen), which are recognisably foreign to you, become a judgement call as it then comes down to your own knowledge of the language and its etymology. Garage Debris Prairie all came into English from French, but the last one is less likely to be recognised as such because it has been around (in our language) longer. Nevertheless they are all originally “foreign”.
