How many actively and publicly homosexual priests have been ordained in the Community of Christ, and what is the current status of their priesthood licenses?
Answer Dear George Williams, This question is impossible for me to answer. The Community of Christ does not (as far as I am aware) keep records of the sexual orientation of its priesthood members. That there are homosexual priesthood holders is a given, some have come out and declared themselves as such, they and others live quiet lives in committed relationships generally. The Community of Christ is currently living in the tension of having homosexual Priesthood holders and at the same time working together so that all members of the church can counsel together about homosexuality and whether or not to ordain homosexuals in the future. To that end there is a moratorium on ordaining open homosexual persons at this current time. Of course this says nothing about those who are not ‘out’ and being ordained.
