How many 1st class stamps do I need to send a normal sized letter to Japan?
You don’t put first class stamps on a letter that’s going abroad – you go to the post office and get ONE stamp or postage-paid label from the counter clerk, for however much the website says it’ll cost, which you put on the envelope together with an “air mail” label. At the moment a 1st class stamp is worth 36p, from next February it’ll be worth 39p, but if you just put enough on the envelope to cover the postage to Japan, and shove it in a post box, it may end up going surface mail and taking months to get there – take it to the post office and get it seen by a clerk.
