How lung lung volume is used during normal breathing and how much is kept in reserve?
Answer Hi Stephanie, Good to hear that you’re in high school! I’ll try to help, but if this is your homework, then you shouldn’t just copy and paste my answers… 🙂 1. The main function of the lungs is the gas exchange. It absorbs oxygen and excretes carbon dioxdie. There’s also water loss at the lungs, but this is something passive. 2. If the airways were reduced in size, then you’d get a reduce in lung efficiency. Also, if your alveoli were to be filled with fluid or cells of the alveoli were to become thicker, the luncg efficiency would decrease. So anything that would reduce gas exchange will decrease lung efficiency. 3. First cries at birth is very important, as it indicates that the baby has overcome the pressure in the lungs to inflate it, and take in gases. At birth, your lungs are filled with fluids, and there’s alot of surface tension. You’d have to overcome the surface tension (extremely strong at birth) to be able to breathe. If the baby cries, it means that it achieved th
