How loud is snoring, and is it dangerous to hearing?
Snoring noise is generally not considered dangerous to hearing, but the concept of “loud” can be very subjective. Sound intensity is measured in decibels (dB). A sound of 10 dB is barely audible to the human ear. Normal conversation ranges between 50-60 dB and a lawn mower is about 90 dB. According to research done by HealthEast and the Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic, almost 85% of snoring exceeds 38 dB which is about equivalent to traffic noise. However, men tend to snore louder than women, and heavier men louder than others.
