How long will the vacuum metallized finish last?

The aluminum (vacuum metallizing) is only .00005 millimeters thick. So if you use anything abrasive to clean the surface, that scratches the top coat or rubs it off then the aluminum (chrome look) will rub off. We recommend parts that are all chrome and handled a lot, like armrests, to be clear coated with some light coats of enamel. Heavy coats could cause runs. Do not use Lacquer to clear coat. It will dry spray and dull the chrome look. Clear coating is not recommended on dash parts that have semi gloss black or silver on them. The clear will make the part glossy and not look right.
