How long will the shelter hold a stray animal?
The LA/SPCA is required under Louisiana law to hold all stray animals for 5 full days. We do not count the day the animal came to the shelter. After this stray period we are then able to make a decision on whether the animal goes up for adoption, transfers to another partner shelter, transfers to breed placement partner, or is euthanized if the animal is not a candidate for adoption or transfer. We make every effort to find every adoptable animal a new loving family.
