How long will the Dacron type covering last?
Generally if the Aerolite is kept in a hangar. The covers should last around 5-7 yrs and possibly longer if good care and storage has been taken. If stored outside to the elements (especially in southern climates) they may only last from 2-3 yrs if left out in this environment unprotected. It is highly recommended to hangar or at the very least, have covers made for the flying surfaces. The average replacement cost for a set of new sails is around $1,500-$1,600. You can purchase an inexpensive fabric tester through many of the aircraft supply outlets that will allow you to check the condition of your covers. You should try to check them annually or every 200 hr.
