How long will practices be?
I am a firm believer in the philosophy of quality over quantity. It does no good to put in allot of time in practice and burn the athletes out half way through the season. Practice is currently set (once meets start) from 3:30-5:00pm four days a week (as we will have a meet on Saturday or one of the week days). This will give the swimmer three non-practice days a week (2 off days and 1 meet day). During the period from 11/3-12/1 there will be 5 practices a week with the weekends off (this is the conditioning part of the season. The theory of giving the athlete time off, has been proven to work very successfully in football under Coach Hetrick in not burning out the athletes during the regular season. However the time spent at practice will be “Quality time”.
