How long will my Series 7 license be active once I leave the brokerage business?
Your Series 7 is only active when you are employed and registered with a broker/dealer or similar. Once you leave that firm’s employment, your Series 7 is no longer active until your registration is transferred to your next eligible employer. Your Series 7 can be inactive for up to two years. During that time if you join another broker/dealer your Series 7 can be reactivated. After 2 years though, you will need to retake the Series 7 exams and start new. There is no way a compliance department will allow a former employee’s registration to remain active with the firm. Once you leave, that’s it.
