How long will it take to get test results back on deer heads submitted in the hunter-harvest surveillance? Will the hunter be notified?

0

Preliminary TB test results can be obtained in a matter of a couple days, once the tissue samples are screened in the laboratory. The volume of samples collected this season (a total goal of 650 white-tailed deer in three areas of the state) may slow the process that will result in delays until the laboratory can get them physically processed. Of the total, 300 will be taken in Franklin Co., 50 in Wayne Co. and 300 in Harrison Co. If a preliminary screening indicates TB may be present, confirmatory culture testing will be done. That can take 6 weeks to 8 weeks to yield results. Hunters will be notified of positive test results by DNR.
