How long will it be before they try to censure the Internet?
Who do you mean by “they”? For “them” to be able to censor the internet, “they” must have some authority over it. As it stands at the moment, it isn’t owned by anybody, but run by collective. So it is unlikely that anybody would censor it in itself. However, certain states restrict content – notably China, with whom large corporations have colluded in censorship, because they want access to Chinese markets. To achieve this, certain IP addresses are banned within those countries. Further, whilst the internet itself isn’t censored, use of certain types of content is still illegal in different countries, as is its distribution, under laws related to pornography and national security, for example. So spending too much time reading fundamentalist Islamic websites and searching for means to manufacture explosives may well attract the attention of a country’s security services.
