How long will it be before the data recorded on a CD-R disk becomes unreadable?
The ANSI Committee IT-9 is currently developing guidelines for CD-ROM and CD-R life estimation. Professional and unbiased studies would seem to indicate a predicted life of between 70 years to over 200 years, though it should be remembered that handling is the most critical factor in the usable life of a CD.
