WHAT IS CAUSING IT? The eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier — 10 times more powerful than another nearby at last month — produced a column of ash and steam that prompted serious flooding, considerable damage and displaced hundreds of people. That ash cloud then spread south west toward Europe around 18 km above sea level, prompting authorities to ground aircraft across the region to reduce the threat to aviation. HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
