How long will a fully charged laptop battery stay charged while not in the laptop?
Lithium-Ion (Li-On) batteries have an internal discharge rate even when physically disconnected or removed from a device that drains/discharges it. The actual amount of time it will last before it needs to be recharged depends upon the initial battery charge at the time of storage, the condition of the battery (how many times its already been charged/discharged), and the storage conditions. A fully charged Li-On battery in new or very good condition (removed or physically disconnected from the laptop) should last at least 12 months before it should be recharged. A typical Li-On battery will lose from 2 to 7 % of its state charge per month (figure an average of roughly 5% per month). As with all batteries, it will last longer if it is stored in a cool, dry place, and not subjected to shocks or jolts. Keep in mind that Li-On batteries cannot be charged/discharged an unlimited number of times. Typically, a quality-manufactured battery can accept roughly 300 charge/discharge cycles. Each c
