How long was Abraham Lincoln president?
Listen to the first poster and not your dad. William Henry Harrison holds the record for the shortest presidency, he died of pneumonia exactly one month after being sworn in as president (he was sworn in March 4, 1841 and died in office April 4, 1841). Lincoln was elected November 6, 1860 and was sworn in as president March 4, 1861. He served four years as president, being elected to his second term November 8, 1864. As had been the case since Washington’s second inauguration (it wasn’t until 1937 that presidents were Inaugurated on January 20th), Lincoln’s second inauguration was March 4, 1865. April 4, 1865 brought his total time in office to four years and one month. Then he was assassinated on April 14th, ten days later. But it wasn’t until the early morning hours of April 15th that he died. So claim four years one month, eleven days.
