How long untill a puppy stops teething?

A dog can have the urge to chew until the age of 3 yrs old! This varies from breed to breed slightly, but is a general rule of thumb for most dogs. I learned this years ago from my vet as I couldn’t understand why after a year old, my American Eskimo, tho having all her teeth, was still doing the destructive chewing. The reason is that even tho the adult teeth are all in, they are still shifting within the jaw into their proper place and this will still bring on the urge to chew. By the time my dog was 3 yrs old, it just stopped. The teeth were done shifting and so the destructive chewing ended with that. I used crating until she was done with this phase as I didn’t want her to have the opportunity to destroy the things in my home. To stop a biting puppy…. 1) Reduce the pressure of the bite. When your puppy nips at you, immediately let out an “ow,ow,ow” or “ouch” in a tone of voice that sounds like a puppy yelping. Your puppy should immediately stop the behavior as he will understand
