How long until the fluid behind my eardrum drains?
To drain behind the ear drum – inside the nasal cavity – takes an expectorant (guaffisen now know as musinex), drinking water and steam. Taking Flax seed will not solve this problem. It may have other benefits. Sudafed can make your head feel clogged because it drys rather than drains. Using the right solution of peroxide in your ear would not cause massive infection. Make sure you and your Dr. are communicating and ask questions. The Dr. should have cleaned the ear canal – the outside part into the ear drum. If that is clean then take some Guaffisen (Store brand is a 4 to 6 hour dose as opposed to Musinex’s 12 hour dose – easier to control night time effects) and drink plenty of water. You might find that taking an expectorant cough syrup at night also helps to drain your head and provides sleepy time help.
